Why Pitcairn Tours?

Pitcairn Tours, Ltd., provides step-on guides and group tour planning services in Boston and throughout New England. In business since 1988, the company is a member of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau and of the Greater Boston Tour Guide Association. Pitcairn Tours currently has the largest roster of fully trained tour guides in the Boston area and surroundings.

Norman and Leslie James are the founders and owners of Pitcairn Tours. They are “hands-on” operators! When you call, you will be talking to people who know the city, know the history, know the routes. Norman and Leslie know the answers, even if you don’t know the questions. They began as step-on guides and continue to lead as many of their tours as possible. At the same time they have expanded their business to include itinerary planning, guide training, hotel and event management.

Major John Pitcairn was a British Marine officer stationed in Boston in 1775. He was a commanding officer of the British troops at Lexington and Concord and (unfortunately for him) a leader in the British assault on Bunker Hill. Norman Pitcairn James is a member of the Pitcairn family and proudly continues the name.

Who are our Clients? Groups! What is a group? It may be a busload of senior citizens enjoying a fall foliage tour. It may be eighth graders on a field trip. It may be a group visiting from England, or Germany. It may be passengers on a cruise, a reunion of Korean War veterans, attendees at a college graduate seminar. It may be a family, a couple in town for a few days. It may even be a bunch of new Duck drivers.
